COACHES WHO BUILD CONFIDENCE

Our coaches bring a wealth of experience, passion and personal dedication to every session. We take the time to get to know you personally, tailoring every movement so you can build strength and move pain-free.

At Uncommon Ground, we’ll support you with every goal, big or small, helping you to improve your health, longevity and confidence to stay fit for life.

James

James

Co-Founder & Coach

James has over 10 years’ coaching experience in weightlifting, CrossFit and functional fitness. He also has a Masters in Physiotherapy and enjoys further studies into nutrition and biomechanics.

James is a fiercely competitive athlete and has taken first place 10 times at events like The Castle Games, Northern Championships and Proven Grounds. He’s also reached the CrossFit Games semi-finals three times!

When he’s not training, you’ll find James hunting for great coffee and delicious pastries. If he’s not eating out, he supports local businesses to make incredible food at home (often in very large quantities).

Jonny

Jonny

Co-Founder & Coach

Jonny is co-founder and coach at Uncommon Ground Gym.

As a specialist in gymnastics, Jonny knows how to break down bodyweight movements step by step, helping you to feel safe when upside down in a handstand or high up on the rig.

Jonny keeps busy by training for both the Rome Half Marathon and the Lake Garda Marathon.

Emily

Emily

Coach

Emily (we call her Em) has been training in CrossFit since the age of 18, where she discovered a passion for strength, Olympic weightlifting and helping people see what they’re capable of. She went on to become a CrossFit Coach and Personal Trainer, supporting everyone from complete beginners to experienced athletes.

As a full-time shift worker and PhD student, Emily understands the challenges of fitting training in with a busy work schedule (and life!). She enjoys helping people build strength, develop their CrossFit skills and feel more confident in the gym.

Em is always up for a post-workout coffee and a croissant, or a cinnamon bun, or a bacon sandwich, or a Northern Rye bouchon (IYKYK). She also enjoys a good long hike with her family collie, Harry.
